Camping for Father's Day

Jacob and Mark left for a week-long camp at Lost Pines Scout Reservation in Bastrop, TX, on Father's Day. It was the first time Mark has attended a campout with Jacob's Flower Mound troop. It was fun to send them off with this throwback picture!

Friend of an Eagle

Sarah's swim coach, Michael, became an Eagle Scout and invited us to his Court of Honor. It was a special ceremony dedicated to his years in scouting and the people that supported him on his journey to Eagle. It was inspirational for Jacob to see, and it was special for Sarah since he is her coach.

Crohn's Update

Sarah was not feeling great towards the end of the school year. More abdominal pain, more fatigue, more not wanting to do sleepovers or other fun things. We took her back to her gastro doctor who wanted to do an updated endoscopy and colonoscopy. The last time was already two years ago! He found lots of inflammation in her lower intestine and some ulcerous spots. This is a pic after she woke up from the procedure. She looks frail to me, and quite thin at 74 lbs.

He prescribed Remicade, a biologic infusion drug as the next step in treatment. It wasn't a decision we took lightly, as the side effects are terrifying. But many patients have done very well on Remicade and she isn't staying in remission on her current meds. This is her during her first infusion. It's basically three hours of sitting in a chair while the drug is dripped into her arm. She gets a comfy chair, a warm blanket and lots of electronics.

So far, we haven't seen any negative effects but the short term ones are not the ones we're worried about.

Rainy Day Fun

This was hilarious! Ethan and Lucas wanted to huddle in for the picture. Sarah did not, as that would make everyone unstable on their skates ... you can guess what happened!

Sarah's Fifth Grade Graduation

Sarah's elementary school graduation was held at the middle school where she will be join on the fall.  She was part of the national anthem and they played a song on their recorders. It was a sweet ceremony with fun speeches from all the fifth grade teachers and many awards.

My little girl is definitely growing up!
