Fairy Tale Ball

The kids' school throws a Fairy Tale Ball each spring for the Kindergartners. Dressed in the most darling pouffy princess dresses, tiaras, and other sparkling accessories, the girls walk demurely in their plastic glass slippers into the cafeteria.

The most dashing princes and knights (sans any weapons) march in orderly fashion to their snack of muffins and juice boxes. Pictures are taken, hugs abound.

Then the music turns on and all hell breaks loose!

The kids start running around the cafeteria to the tune of "Crazy Frog" and bump into each other like they're in a mini mosh pit. Pretty soon someone's tiara gets knocked off. Shoes are flying. Someone is sobbing inconsolably because there are no more chocolate muffins and "Hey! Get off the stage!"

Lucas and I bolted early, but I'm glad I got to see Ethan and his buds ... enjoying the moment.

Happy 10th Birthday Jacob!

Just like it's impossible that my Dad is 70, it's equally impossible that I have a ten-year-old! When I look at him I still see this little guy!

He's completely interested in details of his birth. For example, he tells everyone that his birthday was supposed to be May 14th (Remember that Susan?! She came and went without ever seeing the baby!). That he was induced. Twice. That he didn't want to come out of my tummy. Today, he's a bundle of questions, pre-pubescent anxiety, giggles and sweat.

Dad brought lunch from McDonald's. I brought Lego cupcakes and now we're headed out to his restaurant of choice ... Red Robin. Yum!

A day in the life of Lucas...

Went to the pool with some friends. Squirt gun war erupted and as I turned to run away, I ran smack into a support pole for the shade structure. Knocked me on my booty.

Mom loaned this to a friend who was graduating from preschool. Not me...I got one more year in the joint. But I like wearing this robe and singing songs from High School Musical 3. "Why can't the rest of my life be like my high school musical..."

Cruisin' in my Jeep. Too bad there weren't any chicks around to pick up but at least I didn't have to share the steering wheel.

Rollin' On The River

My friend Laurie's mom and sister live in an area of New Braunfels that has access to a private island on the Comal River. There's a couple walking bridges to get across, canoe rentals, picnic areas and big, grassy areas. We spent last Saturday there, enjoying the clear, cool water, diving boards, and fishin' holes.

Here's Jacob on the "high" dive.

Doesn't that splash look kind of like Sarah?

On the other side of the walking bridge, Ethan on the "low" dive with Donny ready to catch him.

The other side of the island was much more shallow. The kids could stand up here easily and Lucas could play near the edge of the sidewalk and I didn't have to panic every five seconds.

Catching crawfish and lots of algae.

Full of Chic

Lucas and I enjoy laughing at this commercial. He thinks its funny because the diaper is blue. I think the voiceover is hilarious!

We have had some good days and bad days with Lucas going #2 on the potty. He was petrified to do it after a bout of diarrhea but he's been more successful the last few days...something I'm sure all you enquiring minds wanted to know.

UPDATE: The hazard with having a newly potty trained toddler is that they are REALLY bad at wiping their butts but REALLY good at climbing on your bed naked.

Trashy Girls

Around here, none of the kids get too upset when a frisbee or ball rolls into the sewer. Mark just pops off the manhole cover and drops the kids in to fetch the missing item. It's the best five-minute adventure a kid could have! Sarah's friend Julie is moving to Germany when school gets out. At least they'll have memories like this ...

Happy Mother's Day

I enjoyed a lovely breakfast and a Pandora bracelet from Mark and deluge of handmade cards from the kids. I spent most of the day reading...I'm completely addicted to the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. It's been out for several years but mentioned to me recently by a friend. Then I went to work at Bath & Body Works. Of course. We are scheduled EVERY Mother's Day.

Enjoy this video salute to moms...In The Muthahood

Happy Mother's Day!

Reading Restaurant

In first grade, the students put on a Reading Restaurant for parents. They present a menu of the selections they will read and you pay for your selections with compliments. It's a very sweet program and we are very proud of our super-reader, Sarah.

You said "Maturation," right?

In fourth grade, Jacob was learning something completely different! They watched a maturation video (no Charisse, not masturbation!) and discussed anatomy, puberty, exercise, rest and nutrition with the school nurse. The general consensus of the fourth graders was that it was all "disgusting". Phew!
