Forever 21
Hey Cuz,
This one's for you and your crazy friends!
My cousin Kim and her girlfriends take a trip every year, usually to Florida, and this fall they opted for a change of scenery and came to San Antonio! I was excited to show them the Riverwalk, make sure they knew where to get margaritas to go and take them country dancing. Two out of three ain't bad.
After a yummy dinner at Paesano's, here we are at Aculpulco Joe's - the three-story dance club. Definitely NOT country unless you count that crazy video of the cowgirl silhouette dancing like a nymphomaniac with a whip.

Hot Dog!
A train that sells hot dogs? I'm confused about this ride-on toy at the grocery store. And yes, it's cold here. Daytime highs in the 40s. I've acclimated to warmer weather and miss it dearly right now. Especially on the tennis courts. Can't play with mittens on.

I Gotta Feeling
That its going to be a good year! This is Mark dancing with Ethan and Lucas to the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling." I use the term dancing loosely as it's more spinning and jumping, but the kids really love it!
The kids are big on bike rides these days.
The other day Ethan popped a tire. He was devastated and thought he was in big trouble. But it was really because Jacob used and abused this bike for many years and skidded a lot! Kind of like how you try and try and try to open a jar and just when you give up and hand it to someone else to open... POP! ... and so the damaged tire was handed to Ethan. We got him two new tires and two new handlebar grips and he's the happiest kid in the world!
Jacob got a new bike too...a promotional BMX bike from NAPA. Pretty sweet. And a skater helmet so he can be just like the boy across the street.
Maybe I'll get a bike (yes kids, and a helmet!) one day and join them.

Resolutions
I was absolutely not going to post my resolutions on here. I mean, really. Aren't they the same for everyone anyway? Lose weight, work less, exercise more, lay off the (insert your vice here). But one that resonates with me today as I reflect on this year spent mastering technological wonders like blogs and facebook - is that I really want to stay better connected to all our friends and family all over the world.
We had such a fun time in NJ with Mark's childhood friend Bob and his family. I'd heard so much about him and even met him a couple of times, but we never spent that much time together until we had dinner together this summer. My face hurt from laughing at Bob's version of all the stories I'd already heard from Mark. And his family - Mary Beth, Brian and Catherine - were icing on the cake. It made me realize how special moments like these can be. I want more.
So what does that mean for 2010? Maybe learning to Skype and some airline tickets? It remains to be seen. But my 20-year high school reunion will be this summer and Connie might only be in Paris for another year or two. Girls weekends and regular GNOs. Carpe Diem! And hope to see you soon!

Never had the joy of a welfare Christmas

Christmas at our house is always an explosion of excess. Every year, I vow to change it, and somehow it sneaks up on me in the pursuit of just the right thing and equality amongst the kids. But after grocery shopping one night, Ethan and Lucas got creative with the canned goods and it made me glad to know that they could find joy in things that didn't need batteries or come in pretty packages.

Christmas Morning
Jacob was up first around 7 a.m. (not too bad) and impatiently waited for his siblings to wake up so they could open presents! Lucas opened this gift first. After that he didn't want to open any other packages. The other kids didn't seem to have that problem!
